Ricci Hall
A legacy of Jesuit excellence, intellectual formation, and fraternal bond at the heart of The University of Hong Kong.
Jesuit Foundations at 93 Pok Fu Lam Road
Ricci Hall is one of the oldest residential halls at The University of Hong Kong. A boys-only hall with a great history and deep heritage, it was officially opened on 16 December 1929, established as a residence for HKU students by the Jesuit Fathers, mainly to accommodate Catholic students from the Wah Yans, La Salle, and St. Joseph's colleges.
The hall takes its name and patron from Matteo Ricci, a Jesuit Father famous for bringing the West to China and China to the West — revered for his learning and for initiating a dialogue of cultures. In the early 1960s the original building was found too small; the New Ricci Hall was rebuilt and officially opened on 8 December 1967.
"In Ricci Hall we live together, strive together for our common goal — lifelong Brotherhood."

Sacrifice
Unity, Loyalty, and Sacrifice are the three fundamentals of Brotherhood — the Ricci Spirit. The Riccian Character is built through sports, cultural, and hall activities via the Ricci Spirit, the Ricci Motto, and inherited values.
